My question is this: where are the "pro life" people? If every human life is so precious, as they say, then why aren't they here helping?
"Save the babies!" There are AMERICAN CHILDREN starving in the streets, right here on our on soil.
Oh, but these are not fetuses, they are actual CHILDREN. No, if truth be told by the "pro-life" forces, not all life is sacred....SOME life is sacred........and THEY get to decide which ones.
You're right. And after they decide which lives to save, they choose their weapons to conduct political warfare. The so-called pro-life issue not a principle but a weapon, and hypocrisy is the shield.
One need look no further than Pat Robertson, the man who calls himself a Christian minister; who advocates the assassination of foreign leaders that displease him; who "commands" hurricanes to change their course; who claims 9/11 was god's punishment for sin; who claims that George Bush was anointed by god to lead America; the man who makes statements like this one:
"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."
What a shame there was no Terri Schiavo at the Superdome. The Hypocritic Party could have cancelled vacations, raced back to Washington from the four corners to enact emergency legislation and awakened the president in the middle of the night to sign the bill.
We watched as Us troops escorted a Spanish family out of the Superdome area for immediate evacuation, and were walked by hundreds of US citizens pleading for food and water. The spanish family were on holiday. The father was an official in the Spanish government. It would appear that some were more worth evacuating than others.
The lucky Spanish family had better fly home quickly before someone at FEMA learns of this and sends the family back to hell. Releasing them may have been a mistake: hasn't Spain already pulled their support troops out of Iraq?
We've seen things on television and "the internets" that are mind-boggling, criminal and heart-breaking. Yet many Americans continue to trust in Bush. There is little hope for this country's future unless we can change course quickly. The scary thing is, after all the disaster from this administration, we still can't be certain that people, finally, have had enough.

In the words of Maureen Dowd,
...But it is a chilling lack of empathy combined with a stunning lack of efficiency that could make this administration implode.
When the president and vice president rashly shook off our allies and our respect for international law to pursue a war built on lies, when they sanctioned torture, they shook the faith of the world in American ideals.
When they were deaf for so long to the horrific misery and cries for help of the victims in New Orleans - most of them poor and black, like those stuck at the back of the evacuation line yesterday while 700 guests and employees of the Hyatt Hotel were bused out first - they shook the faith of all Americans in American ideals. And made us ashamed. (link requires registration)
