Why do these US Senators hate America?

BlondeSense has an interesting discussion today on this AP story:

Delivering a rare wartime slap at Pentagon authority and President Bush, the GOP-controlled Senate voted 90-9 on Wednesday to back an amendment that would prohibit the use of "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment" against anyone in U.S. government custody, regardless of where they are held.

Sponsored by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the proposal also would require all service members to follow procedures in the Army Field Manual when they detain and interrogate terrorism suspects.

Bush administration officials say the legislation would limit the president's authority and flexibility in war, and advisers say they would recommend a veto of the spending bill if the prisoner provision is included in the version that goes to his desk.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., called the legislation unnecessary. "We do not have ... systematic abuse of prisoners going on by our United States military," he said.

What's up with these nine traitors? Why do they hate America? Are they so caught up in Bush administration propaganda they have removed themselves from civilized thought, discourse and behavior? Have they no concept of how detrimental their views are to US interests, including our own soldiers' safety? Do they care?

Perhaps the oblivious nine agree with the Stupe's previous White House counsel, Alberto Gonzales -- you know, the Gonzales who replaced the infamous John "drape the statues" Ashcroft as US Attorney General; the Gonzales who was himself replaced by Hairyetta "her holiness" Miers as WH counsel:

"In my judgment, this new paradigm renders obsolete Geneva's strict limitations on questioning of enemy prisoners and renders quaint some of its provisions," Gonzalez said.
